PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

We offer a variety of learning opportunities designed to strengthen the skills, knowledge and confidence of early childhood educators, teachers, and family members.

E-learning

Through the Kids Included Learning Management System (LMS), we offer several self-guided, on-demand courses to support early learning and child care professionals.

ePyramid Courses

In partnership with the Pyramid Model Consortium, these additional courses ensure educators have the foundational knowledge to provide high quality inclusive early learning for all children: Birth to 5 ePyramid Modules (18 hours per course), Implementing the Pyramid Model in Family Child Care (16 hours per course), and Targeted Strategies for Successful Inclusion of Children with Disabilities (10 hours per course).

ASaP Modules

Designed for early childhood educators in Alberta, these courses are built on the evidence-based practices of the Pyramid Model, while also incorporating elements of the Flight Framework.

Kids Included Building Blocks

Inclusive Practices Micro-Learning

This workshop series is perfect for early childhood educators who are looking for bite-sized skills to add to their toolkit. These introductory workshops are based on the Pyramid Model, an evidence-based framework for high quality and inclusive care.

In this series, each session explores a different area of the model. Workshops take place via Zoom. Register for one workshop or all. Certificates of completion are provided for each session to all participants who attend in real time.

Honouring Every Brain:
Neuro-Affirming Practice
in the Early Years

Educators have the opportunity in this workshop to deepen their understanding of neurodiversity, reframe behaviour as communication, and identify practical strategies to support neurodiverse learners.

 

Through interactive reflection and discussion, participants will develop a simple, actionable plan to create more responsive, inclusive learning environments.

What's for Lunch?
Creative Visuals to Support Participation in Mealtime Routines

Create smoother, more inclusive mealtime routines with practical visual supports! In this workshop, participants will recognize how visuals support children’s independence, learning, regulation, and participation.

 

Facilitators will break down the different parts of lunch time, with examples of visuals for each step of the routine, so that participants can clearly identify the kinds of visuals that would be meaningful in their context.

Getting Dressed Without Distress! Strategies for Smooth Transitions to Outside Play

Getting dressed to go outside can be one of the most challenging transitions in early learning environments.

This interactive session explores relationship-based and inclusive strategies to support children through this complex routine. Educators will examine the many steps involved in dressing, and identify how to meet each child where they’re at to be successful during this transition.

Autism in Early Learning: From Understanding to Support

This engaging, introductory session invites participants to see autism through a neuro-affirming, strengths-based lens—this workshop will enable participants to describe how autism impacts learning and participation; as well as consider practical, everyday strategies to support communication, connection, and belonging.

Participants will walk away with at least one strategy they can try right away to support autistic learners in their program.

Learning for Access, Support and Participation Program

Our Access, Support and Participation Program (ASaP) offers professional learning, coaching and leadership development opportunities for its enrolled licensed child care centres and family dayhomes.


These learning opportunities focus on helping child care settings across Alberta create high-quality, inclusive environments for all children.
