Last winter we introduced our emPOWER Cars - a portable, more affordable mobility device we co-created for young children with volunteer engineers through APEGA.

We're thankful to say that we received an outpouring of support from the community to help us build more cars and get them into more families' hands - over $16,000 in donations! That support made a second emPOWER build day possible this June.

For this build, we hosted a team of student intern volunteers from the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital at the University of Alberta Faculty of Engineering's ICE Incubator, alongside our APEGA collaborators. The Glenrose will be adding emPOWER Cars to its equipment loaning library, and we've had interest from other organizations as far away as Ontario who want to learn to build emPOWER Cars as well.

Thank you to all the student volunteers, the University of Alberta, and of course all of the donors who have stepped up to support this project. Thanks to you, many more children will be able to move, play, and explore the world independently.

Planning for more build days is already underway. If you’d like to help us build more cars and get more kids moving, consider donating to our Empowering Equipment Fund or even getting some friends together to sponsor a whole car!
